Day 2 - Innsbruck to Salzburg

Dec 15th - Wow, we must have been exhausted, as we didn't even flinch until after 10:00 AM - that would be about 12 hours of sleep, I know I needed it (I'm not sure if I had 12 hours of sleep total the week before leaving). Oops, breakfast was only served until 10:00, but our innkeeper still had the spread out & was very accommodating. Bellies full, we strapped on the backpacks and trekked back to the train station to store our bags. I was hoping to take the bus back to the station, but we ended up deciding to walk it...40 minutes later I was very happy to be many pounds lighter. We spent a few hours walking aroung the altstadt (old town), and enjoying great views of the mountains. It was a drizzly, rainy day, but in the afternoon, the clouds cleared & we were amazed at the views of the mountains we were seeing. We went back for a revisit at the Christmas Market, this time deciding to try some of the Gluhwein (yes, this turned out to be hot, mulled wine) and Gluhpunsch (we're still not sure what was in this) - both very sweet & strong enough to warm you.
After a little more wandering, we made our way back to the train station & hopped on board to Salzburg. It was dark and rainy by the time we arrived, so didn't wander around much...just hopped on the bus we needed to get to our B&B, which is a little bit out of the city. Suprised to find a very spacious apartment for our next two nights & a very sweet inkeeper, Rosemarie. Thankfully there were a couple of restaurants just a few minute's walk away. We ended up at the Schachlwirt, which was a nice cozy little place - two thumbs up for my goulash with spitzel and Rob's smoked trout with pasta. Now time to turn in & look forward to a day exploring Salzburg tomorrow!

Beers for the day: Stiegl and Franziskaner Dunkelweiss
